French

IMS offers an accelerated French program that delivers French lessons to students 4 days a week. Starting from Pre-Casa, students at IMS are progressively introduced to French vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structures using body gestures, stories, songs, games, arts and crafts, and activity sheets. Our Casa graduates will develop a solid foundation in French that prepares them for a smooth transition into grade 1 French Immersion programs if parents choose to continue develop the children passion in French.



Music

Through music, dance, and drama arts, your child will embark on a musical journey that nurtures their understanding of the world around them. IMS’ specialized music program is designed with the developmental milestones of young children in mind. Progressively, IMS students will build a strong foundation in musical knowledge and notation while enjoying the dancing, the singing, and the playing of various instrument in a musically-enriched environment.



Physical Education

A healthy lifestyle starts when you’re little. With a spacious outdoor playground and an indoor gymnasium, IMS students take part in daily fitness activities and remain active even on rainy days! Through our specialized physical education program, IMS students will develop positive exercise habits, self-esteem, and good sportsmanship. Each month, students will work themes such as basketball, yoga, dance and creative movement, gymnastics, hockey, etc.



STEAM

STEAM is an acronym for science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. IMS STEM Program is designed to bring out the Innovator in every child. Through a variety of STEAM topics including chemistry, physics, electricity, coding, arts, and robotics, students learn to create, take risks, cope with failure, work with others, and think outside of the box.

Optional Chinese Program

For those interested, IMS offers the one and only Montessori Chinese Program for Mandarin and Cantonese in York Region. Our optional Chinese program is designed specifically for young children age 2.5-6 years and runs everyday from 4-5pm. Parents can choose to register their children between 1 to 5 days per week.

Students enrolled in our Montessori Chinese program will learn Cantonese and/or Mandarin with hands-on and purposeful Montessori materials including sandpaper character boards, 3-part cards, picture to character puzzles, sensory bins, sand/rice writing, etc. Rather than having a standardized lesson plan, each student will have an individualized learning plan and will progress according to his/her interest and developmental needs. Our curriculum covers all 4 areas of language development: listening, speaking, reading, & writing. The Montessori method is proven to increase students’ interest in learning a new language and makes Chinese learning fun and engaging. The Montessori Chinese Program is available in both Cantonese and Mandarin, and students will have exposure to both the traditional form of Chinese characters as well as the simplified form which is widely used in China. The Montessori Chinese Program is offered daily; but parents is free to choose the frequency of lessons for their child.
